The object as landscape

In my work I would like to continue exploring the concept of the 3D painted canvas as ‘object.’

I have begun to look at paint application in relation to compressed sediment layers within soil and the painted surface. Importantly I will be thinking about the painted surface and differentiation of surface using textures within the composition.

Layers of paint within archaeological segments

The second element of my project is to work from layered archaeological segments, recorded within the painting, during the last excavation. I photographed the stages during the excavation and would like to spend time reversing the process of layers, to make other paintings.

For me the paintings appear to be abstract, but come from a clear methodology of process patterns and practices.

By Looking at the process of reduction, selection, and simplification shared by archaeologists and artists, (understanding process becomes clear).

I am the Site Artist at Blick Mead,Stonehenge and have recorded the site at different stages of excavation and discovery.

The methods and practices made by the archaeology team are starting points for my art works .In my mind they are archaeoscapes.

I was educated at the Royal College of Art and teach part time at U.O.S within the fine art department.
